"Battlefield: America? Bringing the War Home? - Senators demand ability to declare entire nation battlefield. New law allows American citizens to be detained indefinitely without charges by military on US soil." ~Judge Andrew Napolitano

What about the 5th Amendment to the Constitution?

What is wrong with these people?

Music Monday

So, after NINE DAYS off from work and school for our Thanksgiving Break (if you count the weekends before and after the week off) I thought this would be an appropriate song for Music Monday.

Family Friday

Don't kid yourself.  You know what this post is REALLY called...BLACK FRIDAY!  There were 5 of us this year: Lane, Lene, Deanna, Tonya and myself, and we had a BLAST!  This was the smoothest, most organized Black Friday shopping experience I do believe I have ever participated it.  Thursday morning I made the tags for the kids to draw names with for Christmas (more on that later) and a Green Bean Casserole for Thanksgiving Dinner at Scott and Callie's.  After a completely filling and outrageously wonderful dinner, I kissed my little one bye and headed to Lane's.
We were at Target at 7pm for a midnight opening.  (I know, I know.  We're crazy!  But it was so much FUN!)  There were nice people we were in line with, CRAZY outfits, a man peeing on a tree in the parking lot, line jumpers...you name it, we probably saw it.  And if you can burn calories from laughing, I think I burned off all the calories I had eaten earlier in the day.  Plus, we were in and out of Target, with ALL the things we were there for, in 30 MINUTES!
Then on to Toys-R-Us (which had a line that wrapped around the builing by the time they finally opened) to get a most of the things we were after (we didnt feel like waiting around for the 5 o'clock deals when it was only 12:30) and we were in the van again.  In and out of Target and Toys-R-Us in LESS THAN an hour!  SUCCESS!!
Home for a little nap, then I texted Mom, "Want to go see what is left at Wal-Mart?"  I know.  I'm nuts, but I really just needed a new toaster oven since I figured out that just because it says "oven" cleaner, that does not include toaster ovens.
Lunch with Dad and Ashton at McDonald's and now we are home.
What are our Big Plans for the rest of today?  I will be replacing my old toaster oven with my new one, cleaning the kitchen from the Thanksgiving Day cooking, and tonight is pizza and Cars 2.

Can't wait!

Thankful Thursday

A few things I've been thankful for these past few days:

1.  Thankful for Fridays.

2.  Thankful for over-the-counter medicine.
(Can you tell it's been rough for us lately?)

3.  Thankful for a day of rest.

4.  Thankful for time spent with friends.

5.  Thankful for birthdays.

6.  Thankful for my husband, who doesn't mind telling us or showing us that he loves us.

Wordless Wednesday

NewsDay Tuesday

Today's post is very exciting!  Well...at least for me it is.  But the CNN/Heritage Foundation National Security Debate is tonight at 8pm!  I can't wait!  DON'T MISS IT!

Music Monday

We have a very sweet girl in our church who is in her first year of college at UGA who is home for Thanksgiving and requested a song from her former Youth Paster/Minister of Music for Sunday (and of course he granted her wish).  So, back by popular demand:  Hosanna by Hillsong United.  MAN I love to sing this song.

Family Friday

Or should I call it Failure Friday...

Let's begin with a little back story.  I know a wonderful lady who is so talented with any kind of cakes or desserts.  For Halloween she made Ashton's class Pumpkin Pops.  They were AWESOME!  So much so, that the class wrote me a thank you note for them.  Oh yeah.  They were that good.  So I realize that although we had TALKED about the Turkey Pops for Thanksgiving, we may not have nailed down an actul date for pick-up.  I call and sure enough, she is already booked and wont be able to do them in time.  No worries.  I've made cool things before for his classes, I can do it again.

So after a long thought process before, during and after the grocery store trip, I got to my mom's with all the ingredients for Rice Krispie Treat Pops with Sprinkles.

Let's just say that the Rice Krispie Treat Pops didn't turn out quite like I had expected.  And you KNOW its bad when you're 7 year old says, "That's all right mom.  I don't have to take a treat to school tomorrow."  Pathetic.

So...How do you go about doing something like that?  Here, let me show you:

Step 1: Make Rice Krispie Treats
Step 2: Make Rice Krispies into balls and place on sticks.  Get the chocolate melted for dipping and the sprinkles in a bowl.
Step 3: Dip Rice Krispies in chocolate.  Then realize that this is not going to work when you leave the Rice Krispie part in the bowl and are left holding only the stick.
Step 4: Move on to Plan...I've Lost Count At This Point and cover the remaining Rice Krispie Treat Pops with the sprinkles very carefully so they don't fall off the stick.
Step 5: Realize they still look pathetic and say "Screw it!".

I think we ate most of them that night.  They tasted way better than they looked.  And no worries, dear son.  I have already put in our order for the Santa Hat Cake Pops so you won't have to put up with your mom's attempts at Culinary Creativeness.

6. thankful for movie night with friends & family

Will GPS Tracking Concerns Lead to Smartphone, Website Changes?
Fox News

"...if you think it's wrong for the government to track you in this fashion (through GPS without a warrant), then why do you think it's fine for countless corporations and marketers to track you even more closely, following you on vacation, recording what you buy, when you go to your child's school, when you walk through the park, when you go to the doctor's office?
That's exactly what your smartphone does, after all."

Music Monday

This song is called "Sunday With A Flu".  I posted it because of the title (although for me it could be All Week With The Flu) but I found myself really liking it.

Enjoy.

Family Friday

So today's Family Friday actually started Thursday night, but who's counting?  Dinner and a movie with my little man last night was SO much fun.  We had dinner at Papa Luigi's and then on to see Real Steel.

Man oh man was that a great movie.  Fighting robots for him and Hugh Jackman for me.  (sorry dear)

We have the day off for Veteran's Day today, so this morning after running some errands we stopped by the State Park and played some Putt-Putt.

And I got soundly BEATEN by my 7 year old!!  How does that happen?  I'm the one giving him pointers!!  The look of concentration and then the great big smile was all reward I needed though.

Music Monday

This afternoon on the way to Praise Team practice, this song came on the radio and I got a wonderful surprise to hear my 7 year old son, loudly singing along.  Then, when we get to practice, it was on the list of songs we will be doing Sunday.  So I thought it would only be appropriate (especially since we are in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving) for this to be the song for my first Music Monday.  Enjoy!

Busy Busy Busy

This weekend was BUSY BUSY BUSY!

A had his football playoff game early Saturday morning.  They played hard and came in 4th place overall.  I'm so proud of them!  After that was the team End of the Season Party at Pizza Hut!  Yum!
Then home to do some laundry and meet up with Aunt K so he could spend the night with S & L.  He was SUPER excited; especially since they were going to see the Blue Angels after church.
Then I met Dad for dinner with the rest of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class to celebrate October and November birthdays.  Mom was babysitting T and D, so I got to be his date.  :)

Sunday we had an AWESOME church service and then lunch at Arby's.  (Boy we've been eating out a lot this weekend!  I guess that's what happens when Daddy is out to sea!)  After spending the afternoon cleaning and doing laundry (fun times) I stopped over at Mom and Dad's to enjoy a cup of coffee and an outdoor fire.
This was definitely the night to do it.  The air was cool and crisp with not a cloud in the sky.  Now to get ready for a 4 day work week.  YAY!

Happy (belated) Fall Ya'll

Sooo I have this friend who said I should start blogging.  Little did she know that I technically already have one that I have left sitting empty for WAY too long.  So now that I have a free moment, bask with me in the quiet that is my house and enjoy a warm fire on a cool, fall evening.  Happy (belated) Fall Ya'll.
