Music Monday

It seems like every time Hubby comes home from sea he has a new show he has discovered.  Sometimes they aren't picked up for season 2 (The Dresden Files), Sometimes they aren't shows I can get into (Dexter) and sometimes I love them so much I DVR all the episodes I can and watch them any chance I get (Dr. Who - yes, it is HIS fault I love that show).  The Big Bang Theory is one of those shows.  Never seen it?  You DON'T know what you are missing!

Once A Month Cooking

Yesterday My Other Crazy Friend and I combined forces and began our Once A Month Cooking...experiment.  I am excited about this because I think we really are going to save at least a little bit of money in the Grocery department and lot of money in the Out To Eat department.  Plus, we are hoping that it will save us tons of time.
Usually I either spend a ton of time on Friday night or Saturday morning making a WONDERFUL 2 week plan of well balanced, easy, inexpensive but tasty meals OR I remember that I am a member of e-meals.com and download the Any Store Meal Plan for the week.  Anyway, after that is done, I go shopping, bring everything home, put it away... and we go out for dinner.  Then a couple of times a week during the 2 week period in question, we will go out to eat because I dont feel like cooking.  Next time grocery shopping time comes around again, I have food that doesnt get used.  Not exactly the best use of our resources.  So enter...Once A Month Cooking.

After we picked out about 10 recipes each (some we doubled because we both wanted to do them) we shopped in our respective pantries, cabinets, fridges and freezers and came up with pretty much all the ingredients.

Here are a few of the recipes we made:
Lemon Chicken
Ingredients:
Ready for the freezer:

Peppered Flank Steak
Ingredients:
Ready for the freezer:

And Lime Grilled Mahi-Mahi

Peanut even got to help!

I think we made out pretty well.  Don't you?

Mardi Gras Mayhem

This weekend was Mardi Gras and my guys wanted to go check out the parade so we met Dad downtown to watch the parade, get TONS of beads, eat carnival food and take a tour of a pirate ship!! Just kidding on the last part, but it WAS a beautiful 3 masted sail boat that the owner and his wife built by hand.

Family Friday

It's Family Friday and we are all off from school and work!  YAY!  So what do you do when you have a day off?  GO FISHING!
...but...I'm not invited.  (no, really, it's ok)

So I just sent Hubby and Little Man off with a cooler of drinks and a waterproof container of chips & Vienna Sausages to go pick up Papa.  They are going to have a BLAST!
I have no idea when they will be back, I only asked that they all actually come back.

So what am I going to do with myself?  Boring stuff.  Laundry, dishes and a shower.  THEN I am heading over to My Other Crazy Friend's house so that we can plan and shop for our first foray into...Once A Month Cooking!!!
I know, I know.  You are thinking we are CRAZY...but I think that has already been established.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

Family Friday

So, in trying to figure out what I am going to do for my wonderful husband and son for Valentine's Day, I came across the 14 Days of Love.  Due to the CRAZINESS that is our lives, it got shortened to 7 Days of Love.  I was super excited to do this!  Since he is out to sea to often, I feel like I miss a lot of chances to show my Hubby just how much I love and appreciate him.  And it is always a good thing to show your Little Man how much he is loved.  So each day between February 7st and 14th, I left them a small little gift with a handmade card that has a cute little saying attached.  There are a lot of different versions out there, but here was mine:

Day 1:
 Day 2:
Day 3:
Day 4:
Day 5:
Day 6:
Day 7:
My Little Man thought it was AWESOME!  I thought it was super fun and I definitely will be doing this again next year!!

Family Friday

What a WONDERFUL Family Friday (and Saturday and Sunday) this was!  We decided to take a long weekend while Hubby was on vacation and spend the weekend in a cabin in the woods in North Georgia.  It was a long drive but we passed the time by listening to The Titan's Curse again (Daddy hadn't heard it).
It was dark when we got there but the cabin was beautiful!
The next day we were up early and jumped in the hot tub.  I felt a little like a member of the Polar Bear Club since it was so chilly.  :)  After that, Daddy made a yummy breakfast and we got ready to start the day.  We did a bit of exploring in the surrounding towns and went for a hike up to a double waterfall.  It was BEAUTIFUL and we all enjoyed it (especially the dogs!).

Can you find the little boy in this picture?

There he is!!
He found a Hidy-Hole Tree!
The next morning, after another dip in the hot tub and another yummy Daddy-made breakfast, it was time to pack up.  On the way home, we stopped and explored a Gold Mine!
We toured the underground mine and learned so much!

Look!  Rocks that RUST!
A drill bit that got stuck in the rock over 100 YEARS AGO!  Think he can get it out?
And what do you find in caves?  BATS!

After the mine tour, we all got to pan for gold!

Then back in the truck for the trip home.
Can you tell traveling just takes it out of them?
